The Complete Listbuilding Tutorial

A successful blog knows the power of their list. It opens the doors for brand loyalty & recognition, affiliate commissions, and traffic generation. The perfect time to begin building a list is when you first start blogging. There are some costs involved, and I’ll go into that. Here are the points this complete listbuilding tutorial will cover:

  • The costs of starting and maintaining a list
  • Email marketing
  • Free giveaways
  • Delivering the free offers
Let’s begin
1. The costs of starting and maintaining
The first and foremost cost here is your email marketing service. Some of the more popular ones are aWeber, MailChimp, and GetResponse. They range anywhere from $5 a month to over $300 a month, depending on the size of your list. You’ll soon see the benefit of building a list when you are doing it properly. The costs are minimal when you start driving traffic to your website and earning affiliate commissions from product recommendations.
2. Email Marketing
Maybe I need to take a step back here and explain the process. Your site has an optin box which gets people to opt in so that they can receive a free report, eBook, interview, etc. The service that sends that giveaway to your subscriber is your email marketing service. Additionally, you can create messages to send out to your list members whenever you wish. Once these messages are created, they are sent out on auto-pilot. Big time saver.
 3. Free Giveaways
I’ve said this before, but building a list is a lot like fishing. You catch fish by offering to them something they would enjoy eating. In our case, your target market has needs and desires. Get them to optin to your list by giving them something they want. It must solve their problems and provide massive amounts of value. Some things you can give away include:
  • Interviews
  • Guides
  • Podcasts
  • Tutorials
The most common form of giveaways are eBooks in the pdf form. If you don’t know how to create one, don’t waste your time figuring it out, outsource it.
4. Delivering the free offers
Here’s the simplest way to begin delivering your free offers. The formula illustrated below was used with aWeber & HostGator. Not very familiar with the other programs, but if you’re using those 2, then this will work perfectly for ya.
  • Log into your cPanel
  • Choose ‘File Manager’
  • Choose ‘Web Root (public_html/www)’
  • Choose ‘Upload’
  • Leave the checked boxes the way they are and make sure it says 664 next to Permission
Next, you’ll need to remember the name you gave to your giveaway. For example, if you saved it CoolBook.pdf on your computer, then add that to the end of your domain. That’s the link to your giveaway. Next, log into to your email marketing service and create a message with that link inside the body copy. Once that’s done, your new subscribers will receive your free offer in the first message you send to them. Apply the things I’ve just taught you and you’ll be well on your way to success.
